What is Neurofeedback?
Neurofeedback is a scientifically grounded training method in which the electrical activity of the brain (EEG) is measured in real time and returned as visual or auditory feedback. Through this training, the brain learns to better regulate its own activity.
The method has been used in clinical practice for decades and has been scientifically studied for various application areas such as concentration training, relaxation, and peak performance training.
What Experts Say
Dr. phil. Ralf Friedrich
Psychological Coach
I am thrilled with the EEGenius. The EEGenius home training device is a simple, effective solution for providing neurofeedback to a larger number of clients at low cost. I can train all frequency bands with it and users can work at their own pace. Additionally, I can train teams, which is particularly helpful in sports to prepare a team for a game or to see which player is currently in peak mental performance. The EEGenius opens up entirely new areas of application for neurofeedback. Especially in coaching, clients can be better prepared for challenges because they can still optimally prepare themselves just before professionally difficult situations. I am thrilled with the EEGenius.
Martin Boncek
Physician and Psychotherapist
My experiences with the Mindfield eSense EEGenius as a specialist in psychosomatic medicine are thoroughly positive. The user-friendliness of the device stands out in particular. Even for people who are not very experienced with technical devices, the operation is straightforward. The fact that the software is available in German additionally facilitates getting started, as language barriers are eliminated. The concept of neurofeedback home training is particularly convincing to me. It offers a flexible training option in the familiar environment of one's own home, which is a decisive advantage for many of my patients. In addition, the option of remote training enables spatial independence. In summary, I recommend the eSense EEGenius as an excellent choice for anyone looking for an effective and user-friendly neurofeedback device for home or remote training. It combines simple handling with professional features and thus offers significant added value.

Neurofeedback home training with the eSense EEGenius brings great advantages. It can be used at home in addition to neurofeedback therapy, which increases training frequency and can accelerate therapy progress. Neurofeedback training thus becomes possible from home and can be used not only for treating conditions but also for prevention or performance enhancement without significant time and cost expenditure. Neurofeedback home training creates knowledge about the brain and teaches how to consciously deal with its strengths and weaknesses. The eSense EEGenius encourages engaging with one's own brain, as it usually knows more than we think.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is neurofeedback?
Neurofeedback is a scientifically established method from applied neuroscience where electrical brain activity (EEG) is measured in real-time and fed back as visual or auditory signals. Through this learning process – based on operant conditioning – the brain can be trained to develop more efficient activity patterns. Neurofeedback has been used in research and clinical practice for over 50 years and is the subject of numerous studies in the areas of attention, stress regulation, and cognitive performance.
Is neurofeedback scientifically recognized?
Yes. Neurofeedback has been the subject of international research for decades. Professional organizations such as the International Society for Neuroregulation & Research (ISNR) and the Association for Applied Psychophysiology and Biofeedback (AAPB) have published evidence ratings classifying neurofeedback as "efficacious and specific" in certain application areas. Meta-analyses demonstrate positive effects, particularly for attention and concentration deficits. This is not an alternative wellness technique, but an established training method with a solid neuroscientific foundation.
How does neurofeedback work in detail?
An EEG sensor on the scalp captures brain waves across different frequency bands (e.g., Theta, Alpha, SMR, Beta). The software analyzes these signals and provides the trainee with real-time feedback – such as controlling a game or modifying a video. Through repeated practice, the brain learns to selectively enhance or suppress certain frequency patterns. This process of self-regulation is based on neuroplastic principles and is comparable to training a muscle.
What can neurofeedback training achieve?
Neurofeedback training aims to improve the brain's self-regulation capabilities. In practice, this means: better concentration, more efficient stress management, improved sleep quality, and enhanced cognitive performance. Professional neurofeedback therapists also successfully use this method as complementary training for attention and concentration difficulties. The eSense EEGenius makes it possible to carry out this form of training independently at home.
Who is the eSense EEGenius particularly suitable for?
The eSense EEGenius is suitable for children (from primary school age), teenagers, and adults. It is particularly valued by people who want to specifically train their concentration and attention skills, by professionals with high stress levels to improve stress resilience, and by older adults to promote cognitive fitness. The EEGenius is also frequently used as a complement to professional neurofeedback practice or therapeutic guidance.
Why train at home instead of at a clinic?
Professional neurofeedback in a clinical setting is effective but costly (typically €80–120 per session) and requires regular appointments. The eSense EEGenius enables continuous training in your familiar environment – at a fraction of the cost. This is particularly relevant because neurofeedback achieves its effectiveness primarily through regularity. Home training does not replace therapeutic treatment, but it provides a meaningful supplement and independent training opportunity.
How long and how often should I train?
2–3 sessions per week of 15–20 minutes are recommended. Optimal results are achieved with 20–30 minutes per session. Maximum 40 minutes per day. Rest days between sessions are important, as the brain needs time to consolidate new patterns – similar to muscle training. Many users notice first tangible effects after 10–15 sessions.
What technical requirements are there?
You need a web browser (Google Chrome recommended) and a Bluetooth connection to a PC, laptop, or tablet. Supported: Windows 8/10/11, Mac OS X from approx. 2015, Linux with Chrome, Android tablets from Android 10, iPad from iPadOS 15. Smartphones are not suitable due to small screen size. The EEG sensor connects wirelessly via Bluetooth – no additional software installation required.
Is the eSense EEGenius a medical device?
The eSense EEGenius is designed as a training device for personal neurofeedback training and is not a certified medical device. It does not replace medical diagnosis or therapy. However, the underlying technology is based on the same scientific principles used in clinical neurofeedback systems. Many users employ the EEGenius alongside professional guidance from therapists, coaches, or neurofeedback practitioners.
What distinguishes the EEGenius from meditation apps?
Meditation apps offer guided exercises without objective measurement of brain activity. Neurofeedback with the EEGenius, on the other hand, measures your brain waves in real-time and provides concrete, objective feedback about your current mental state. You can "see" what is happening in your brain and specifically influence it. This makes the training significantly more effective and measurable than subjective self-assessment during traditional meditation.
